Jace Jung: Jace Jung was a star member of the Foresters 2020 NBC World Series championship team, showing off power and all-around offensive prowess while playing second, third, and the outfield. In the first game of 2020, Jace had a pair of RBI. In a later game, he smacked a grand slam for half the runs in the 19th win of the short summer. How locked-in was Jace that summer? At one point, he was hitting .500 but headed out for extra pregame BP with Coach Steve Schuck. Jace was voted the Foresters 2020 MVP after hitting .404 and smacking 10 homers, tied for the team lead and among the most ever by a Forester hitter. After his Foresters summer, Jace stayed hot, becoming the 2021 Big 12 Player of the Year with Texas Tech. In 2022, Jace was chosen No. 12 overall by the Detroit Tigers. He made his Major League debut in 2024, helping the Tigers to an ALDS appearance. A highlight of his MLB career has been facing off against brother and fellow ’Sters HOF member Josh of the Texas Rangers. On Mother’s Day 2025, Josh hit a homer when his Rangers beat Jace’s Tigers with their mom in the stands!
Matthew McLain: Shortstop Matthew McLain from UCLA hit an incredible .436 in the summer of 2020, just a few points off the Foresters single-season best. He also had seven homers. Matthew got our weird COVID summer off to a great start with four RBI on a double and a triple in the very first game. As the leadoff hitter, he was involved in rally after rally as the Foresters mowed down opponents to finish 30–4 overall. With a leadoff homer in the championship game, Matthew helped the Foresters win NBC World Series title No. 8 in Wichita. At the NBC, Matthew was named—quite presciently—the Top MLB Prospect. (Named to the All-America team at that NBC Tournament was Matthew’s brother, Sean; together they were the first pair of brothers to star on the same Santa Barbara team.) Matthew made that prospect award come true when was chosen with the 17th pick of the 2021 MLB Draft by Cincinnati. By 2023 he was in the Majors and came in fifth in NL Rookie of the Year voting. After missing 2024 with an injury, he played nearly every game for the Reds in 2025 with 15 homers, 50 RBI, and 18 steals. His all-around skills will surely lead to a long MLB career.
Dr. Chris Proctor: A championship team needs championship care and for more than 25 years, Dr. Chris Proctor provided that and more to Foresters players. One of the nation’s leading orthopedic surgeons, Chris devoted countless hours and his expertise to making sure Foresters players were taken care of. He was a constant presence at the field to consult with team trainers and coaches as well as counsel players on training, rehab, and more. Off the field, Chris was a longtime Foresters board member as well. He and his wife Julie, also a key Foresters volunteer, are among the club’s most devoted Host Families; dozens of Foresters have enjoyed their hospitality over the years. Chris’s HOF induction joins a remarkable list of achievements including work with the US Ski Team, UCSB, the New York Yankees, and much more. We’re glad this doctor has been in our house.
Tickets for the event are $75 for adults, $25 for kids 5-17, and kids under five free. Come out and support the Foresters and Hugs for Cubs and have a great Hot Stove Baseball night!
